Introducing…
The Uptowners!
When it comes to Norwegian Ska and Bluebeat sounds, The Uptowners are right up there, pumping out a mix of Jamaican and British rhythms! Their live sets can best be described as energetic bound to leave even your pinky toenails dripping with sweat! The Uptowners was formed back in 1999. Since then, the band has been delivering “..a rich vein of soulful rocksteady in the mould of Hepcat”, to use the words of DoTheDog Magazine. The Uptowners have enjoyed rising the ranks in Norwegian ska quickly after their first release “Killer on the Loose” EP, produced by Mr. Dale Powers of New York Dolls fame. In 2003, The Uptowners, together with 64 other artists, was hand picked out of over 1000 applicants wanting to join one of Norway’s most important festivals, “by:Larm”! After the band’s stunning show at this festival, The “Floor Shakin’ Ska ‘N’ Soul” of The Uptowners was soon being played on Norwegian radio and television! Since the early days, The Uptowners have been honored to perform on stage alongside artists such as The Slackers, Bad Manners, Rude Rich & The Highnotes, The Hotknives, P.A.I.N, Chickenpox and Cockroach Clan.
The Uptowners have grown to be a band in high demand in Germany (after their July 2000 appearance at the Potsdam Ska Festival and their 2003 Germany tour) and of course Norway, making their way through the most crowded and popular Norwegian venues, such as Kroa i Bø, UKA i Ås, SoWhat, John Dee, and Felix - to mention a few.
The Uptowners are currently working on their second EP, "Sideways Upside Down", which will be released on March 30th 2005. Meanwhile, samples of the band latest recordings are to be found on the two German compilations “Skannibal Party vol. 3” (Mad Butcher Records 2003) and “Kingston-West-London-East-Dortmund-Nord LA-Ska-Compilation” (Langer August).
